Welcome to the website for Philip Mead, concert pianist, composer and conductor from Cambridge, England. Mead is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Hertfordshire and involved in numerous musical projects across the country. Most recently, in October 2008 he is organising a complete performance of the Associated Board "Spectrum" pieces wih 144 pianists; the first in the South of England.
From 2004 Mead has also been researching the possibilities of expanding the resources of the piano by computer at de Montfort University, and has now created his own performance system using Max/MSP software.
The British Contemporary Piano competition is now in it's 20th year. The competition is a non-profit organisation founded in 1988 by Philip Mead, which last took place on 26th October 2006 at the University of Surrey, Guildford. The next competition is due to take place in October 2009, also at the University of Surrey, and will have a strongly British repertoire.
