Welcome to the website for Philip Mead, concert pianist, composer and conductor from Cambridge, England. Mead is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Hertfordshire and involved in numerous musical projects across the country. In October 2008 he organised a complete performance of the Associated Board "Spectrum" pieces wih 144 pianists; the first in the South of England.
Currently Mead is researching the possibilities of expanding the tonal resources of the piano in a project centered jointly on the University of Hertfordshire and the University of Paris 8.
The British Contemporary Piano competition is a non-profit making competition founded by Philip Mead in 1988. The last competition took place in 2010. The next competition will take place in October 2013 hosted by the University of Surrey. The new artistic director will be Clive Williamson, Head of Performance at the University.
